🧠 Introduction: Why Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Matters
In today’s classrooms, learning extends far beyond academic achievement. Children must learn to understand themselves, manage emotions, build positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and develop resilience — the heart of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).
Research from CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) and multiple neuroscience studies shows that SEL:
-
Improves academic performance and attention
-
Builds empathy, cooperation, and communication
-
Reduces behavioral challenges and anxiety
-
Strengthens students’ ability to navigate challenges and manage stress
-
Fosters positive school culture and teacher-student relationships
When SEL is intentionally taught and practiced, students learn how to learn, how to feel, and how to connect — skills that last a lifetime.
